Colour in Conversation: Susan Harrow, Vicky Jackson, Claudia Tobin
2nd December 2013, 4pm, Seminar Room A, 43 Woodland Road, University of Bristol.
In this mini-workshop. Susan Harrow, Vicky Jackson and Claudia Tobin will discuss their research on colour in the visual arts and literature.
Colour fills an important space of coincidence and of difference between verbal and visual media, yet receives minimal attention in discussions of literature. Introducing her project Colourworks Susan Harrow will be asking ‘how do writers write colour?’, and reflecting on the agency and the value of colour-in-text. Susan is a Professor of French and her research interests lie in the later-nineteenth and twentieth centuries, especially poetry and the novel with a particular focus on the interrelation of literary modernism and visual culture.
